Christmas Devotional

Through an amazing stroke of...well...CONFUSION, really...we were able to get tickets to the First Presidency Christmas Devotional on Sunday! We've made some great friends here in our new ward so far. One of the couples we've become closest too, Corbin and Moena Dean, actually 'look' a lot like us. And by that I mean that he is tall, skinny, and white like Andrew and she is tiny, short, and dark like me. So because we all hang out together often our fellow ward members sometimes get mixed up. The way we got the tickets was one of those times.

On Sunday both Andrew and Corbin bore their testimonies in Sacrament meeting and in Corbin's he mentioned how excited he was to hear the Christmas Devotional that night. Later on in Relief Society one of the girls in the presidency approached me and offered me two tickets to the devotional. I was pleasantly surprised and she said "Well, your husband said he was excited for it in his testimony so I thought you guys would like to go!" Boy did that make for an awkward moment. With Moena standing right behind me. The girl was totally embarassed that she had thought Corbin was my husband, but the funniest part to me was the fact that she didn't even really mean to give the tickets to us at all. It worked out perfectly though because the Dean's already had tickets! So we all got to go together and had dessert at their house afterwards. We thanked Corbin for getting us the tickets!

The devotional was amazing, of course. The stage decorations were beautiful, and it always takes my breath away to see that many Mormons in one place at one time. The talks were wonderfully inspiring and set the spirit for the month. I love that the Presidency takes the time to do this. It makes such a difference for me. I think my favorite part of the meeting was the closing hymn. The congregation was invited to join in on the last verse of Silent Night and as all those voices echoed in that huge room it really REALLY REALLY felt like Christmas time. Everyone talks about the true spirit of Christmas and how hard it is to find. For me, one of the surest ways to find it is in the songs. The ones about the Savior's birth.

Only 9 days till we go home!
Merry Christmas!!
