A child and a book.

For Christmas Audrey got some illustrated child versions of classic books we thought she’d enjoy from Barnes and Nobles.  They are her first chapter cooks.  Every night we lay in my bed and read a chapter or three (they are really short chapters).

The other night we finished The Little Princess.  She would look forward to reading it every night and even bring it up sometimes during the day.  Doing this together has become a really lovely little part of our life and such a nice end to our day.  Hannah joined in sometimes for that book but I think it will flow better when she’s a little older.  Maybe she will get a few of her own next Christmas….
Oh, also, we will be doing a movie night each time we finish a book.

Last night we started The Secret Garden and tonight the whole family was on the bed listening.

We also discovered the amazing-ness of books on CD for kids while on our California road trip.  Family favorites so far are Peter Pan and Junie B. Jones.

This is just another parenting dream come true for me.
I love beautiful books and wonderful stories.
And I love those kids.
The combination

is pure magic.

Also here is a look at their beautiful childhood creativity lately that I want to remember forever for adorableness and hilarity:

thats our curly hair all around the board

also eli as a gentleman.  thats what they called him when they put this polly pocket hat on his head.  and giggled like there's no tomorrow.

Art After Dark is something they do at the Museum of Art on BYU Campus where they have refreshments and music to accompany a new exhibit.  We've gone before but this time was really fun because the exhibit was called "Home Sweet Home" and they served free cinnamon rolls!  Audrey walked around loving all the houses, pictures and sculptures and all, talking and cackling about each one.  Hannah was just chilling in the stroller the whole time.  It seems that in situations like this, going to an art museum, Hannah is to Audrey what Andrew is to me- they are mild to balance out our exuberance.  We trade off sometimes and I think we've found it's a good system!  As part of our little family outing we went and found a GeoCache hidden in rock wall!

We went to Chalk the Block a few weeks ago with Mariah and Ross and Becki.  It's a sidewalk chalk competition at Riverwoods Shopping Center that wee've been hearing about ever since we moved to Provo almost 5 years ago.  We finally went to it and it was awesome!  I tell you having kids has made us a much more active family- goals and activities, everything.  It was a really good time.  The artists were just anybody who paid for a spot.  There were some absolutely amazing ones, but here were a few of our favorites:

audrey's favorite of course

can you believe that's chalk???

we went to an awesome toy store there at riverwoods afterwards

Lastly, here are some of our favorite library books recently.  I love amazing pictures in children's books:

audrey has this book memorized and "reads" it with the same cadence we do!  it will always be one of my favorite memories of her childhood.  i love how much she loves this book.  it's about a girl who hopes to have a dragon for a friend and in it she gets her wish.  i love audrey's imagination and i feel like i can see it coming through in this book.

i had checked out the book "Hannah's Night" before we had a Hannah of our own.  it's about a little girl, toddler age, who wakes up surprised to find that it's not morning yet and then she goes about the house seeing what things are like at night.  i can't help but think of this story when i'm up with hannah in the middle of the night, dead tired, while she is wide awake and so enthusiastic about life.

And here's one more picture just for fun.  Audrey at Stake Conference.
