Sewing Project # 2- Hannah's Baby Pillow

So in case you haven't heard yet let me just tell you I got a sewing machine for Christmas!!  I assume you've already heard because I've been telling everybody.  Don't think now that I'm a super good sewer (seamstress?  sewer?) or have any ambitions of becoming one.  But please DO know that I am having fun owning my very own sewing machine!  And that is what a hobby is for, right?  Being happy!
My good friend Kaylee helped me make those onsie dresses for my girls earlier this year and it just really awakened the interest in me.  It is my new hobby and I wish so badly that Kaylee was still here to help on my sewing adventures!  Pinterest is good too, but sometimes you just need a real physical person to help you!  Particularly a lovely tall red head who lives literally 10 steps away from my front door.  Oh well.  I guess I just need to show her on here.  Again, this is what blogs are for!

My first little project was to make a little pillow for my little Hannah.  Audrey has a special pillow from Andrew's childhood that I thought we'd pass down to each kid.  But since she is still extremely attached to it I very happily have made it my project to make one for each of the rest of our kids to have as their own special one.

the finished product.  all i knew was that i wanted it to be kind of patchwork-y and I wanted it to basically be Hannah if she were a pillow.  all the fabric was extra from my mom and i'm probably a little too proud of how cute it is and how i figured it out by myself.
audrey was very excited until she realized i wasn't making something for her

i guess me sewing was the best entertainment in the house.  audrey set herself up all comfy just to watch me cut and pin

When I finished it Hannah once again made me feel like I am the best person in the entire world and that it is the best pillow in all of existence.  Every night when we give it to her in her crib she smiles huge, buries her face in it for a second, and then hugs it while she falls asleep.

So, yes it could've been made by a twelve-year-old (or younger...some kids learn to sew so well so young), but my girl loves it with all her heart and so I'm proud, proud, immensely proud of the silly little thing.  Many more sewing projects in my future, especially now that I have my own machine!  Thank you Andrew and Mom and Dad!!!

Hurray! Very cute pillow. I don't think I've ever done a patchwork thing, so maybe now I'll try. glad you are making good use of the material and enjoying your hobby.
