Audrey's First Birthday

Last month our little baby turned one.

It seems crazy that we've had her for a year.  In some ways I wonder how it has ONLY been a year and other ways I can't believe it's ALREADY been a year.  I love this girl so much.  I can't imagine life without her…it's like she's always been here.

We celebrated her birthday at my family's house in California because it happened to be the same week as my sister's wedding!

It was so awesome to be with family for the wedding and for Audrey's birthday and to have a low key little celebration for it.  It was crazy to think that we brought her home to that very house only one year before.  She seemed quite surprised as she sat in the high chair in front of everyone as we all sang Happy Birthday to her.  When the cupcake with the lit candle came to her she seemed excited but still very confused.  We had her open presents before getting messy with the cupcake.  She got some great new books from Grandma and Grandpa Dobbins, some outfits and a big toy airplane from Grandma and Grandpa Hanaike, and some little toys from us.  She also got some outfits and toys from my aunt and uncle later in the week.  She enjoyed all the toys and books much more later on…I think me trying to get her to tear into the wrapping paper over and over again kind of frustrated her more than excited her.  But she loved everything she got and we are so grateful to everyone who doted on her!

we let her spit a little more than we usually do…cause, you know, being the birthday girl and all.  look at those veins in her head popping out with how vigorously she's doing it!

i think that's her "are you sure this is okay, mom?" face

the present opening didn't interest her for very long…I'm sure that will change soon enough

She liked the cupcake once we undressed her and put it in front of her, especially the frosting.  She didn't get too messy though…she was kind of dainty about it, just trying to pick up the frosting with her fingers.

That evening we skyped with Grandma and Grandpa Dobbins who sang to her again!  It was an amazing day and an amazing year!  We can't wait to see what this next year brings…good or bad!  Bring it on.  We're ready for more, more, and more Audrey!

Stay tuned for a post about our one year old Audrey-isms…….
